Fire Department
Stromsburg Volunteer Fire Dept.
Fire Chief: Tim Pallas (402) 764-2242
For Emergency Dial 911
Fire! The ringing of the fire bell brought fear to the hearts of the early residents of Stromsburg. Every able bodied person grabbed a bucket and ran to help with the "bucket brigade" since that was the only way of getting a supply of water to the fires.
Today's fire protection is provided by a 24-member volunteer fire department. This department also provides protection to 126 square miles outside the city limits by agreement with the Rural Fire Board and operates the Rural Fire District's equipment. A 1999 pumper/tanker brings the total number of fire trucks owned by the City and the Rural Fire District to five. One of the trucks carries a Jaws of Life and a generator and one is equipped to fight grass fires.
