Timm Waller and Sharon
Noyd were chosen to represent Stromsburg for the ensuing year as they were
crowned King and Queen at the annual Swedish Midsommar Festival Friday evening
in the town square. Last year's King and Queen, Frank Samuelson and Marilyn
Holmberg, passed on their crowns and capes to the new royalty.
Attendants for the 2007 royal court are Amanda Giannou, daughter of John and
Cheri Giannou; Meghan Johansen, daughter of Kyle and Renate Johansen; Cael
Lundstrom, son of Craig and Kathy Lundstrom; and Colton Nuttelman, son of Greg
and Stacy Nuttelman.
Sharon's
daughter, Amanda Goldfish, introduced her mother with the following tribute:
Sharon was born in the
Osceola Hospital to Larry and Phyllis (Anderson) Johnston. She moved around
throughout her childhood, but always considered Polk County her home. After
graduating from Columbus High School, she married Perry Noyd in 1971. They
bought an acreage west of Stromsburg in 1973 and have lived there ever since.
She
worked for the Midwest Covenant Home as an aid before becoming the secretary for
their business, Perry Noyd Repair. She enjoys gardening, baking and taking care
of her grandchildren.
Sharon
has always been involved in the community. She was active at the school as her
children grew up. She was a Girl Scout leader, part of the Band Parents, member
of the Stromsburg School Board, and a member of the Stromsburg School
Foundation.
Sharon
is an active member of St. Paul Lutheran Church in Osceola. She has been a
Sunday school teacher for 23 years. She sings in the choir and directs the
children's Sunshine Singers. She also is co-chairman for the Polk County Fair
lunch stand.
She
is busy all year round when it comes to the Swedish Festival. She has been one
of the co-chairmen for the Smorgasbord for many years. She is well known for her
Ostkaka and other Swedish foods she makes. She even taught a cooking class to
teach others how to cook these foods. The last several years she has been
working with others to develop and make Swedish costumes for the Smorgasbord
workers. She has also been active on the Swedish Festival Planning Committee.
Starting last year, mom helped promote the idea of the Swedish Dala Horses at
the businesses around town.
Family
has always been imporant to mom. She has always had an interest in family
genealogy by keeping reunions going. Sharon and Perry have three children.
Christine is married to Jeff Church and lives west of Stromsburg. They have
three children, Coty who lives in Sidney, NE, Andrew and Michaela. Charles is
married to Neeli and they live in Stromsburg. They have three children, Emily,
Isaac and Alex. I am married to Eric Goldfish. We live in Shelton and have one
child, Madison.
