Perry Noyd and Pam Johnson were crowned as 2005 Swedish Festival royalty Friday night in the town square.  The 2004 King and Queen, LeRoy and Grace Gerrard, handed down their crowns and robes to the new royalty.

Attendants for the 2005 royalty are Jacob Barnett, son of Jesse and Mindie Barnett; Nathan Kopetzky, son of Wade Kopetzky and Jennifer Kopetzky; Emily Noyd, daughter of Charles and Neeli Noyd; and Madison Baker, daughter of Owen and Kari Baker.

Perry was born in Stromsburg and grew up just west of town.   After graduating from Stromsburg High School in 1967, Perry served for four years in the Navy.  He was on the USS Coral Sea most of those four years and had three tours of duty overseas during the Viet Nam war.

Perry and his wife Sharon purchased an acreage west of town and moved back to the Stromsburg area in 1973.  He worked at Sunflower Beef Packers in York for ten years.  In 1981, Perry started his own business called Perry Noyd Repair and has provided repair services to Stromsburg and the surrounding communities since that time in the heating, air conditioning, refrigeration, and appliance fields.

Perry provides refrigerators and freezers for use at smorgasbord and Grandma’s Kitchen during the festival.  This year was his first attempt to temporarily hook up air conditioning for the gym so that the smorgasbord could have a more comfortable environment.  He’s also available to do extras with the smorgasbord set up.

Perry is an active member of the St. Paul Lutheran Church in Osceola where he is presently on the church council, head of the property committee, and sings in the choir.

Perry’s involvement in the Stromsburg Legion Club includes marching in the festival parade every year and serving in the honor guard for military funerals and Memorial Day services.  He helps with various things for the Legion Club such as repairing flag poles, building more effective storage for the handicap equipment stored at the Legion, inventing an aluminum can crusher for their use, and much more.

Perry and Sharon have three children who have all graduated from Stromsburg High School.  Christine is married to Jeff Church, has three children, and lives just west of Stromsburg.  Charles is married to Neeli, has two children, and works with his father in the business.  Amanda is married to Eric Goldfish, lives in Shelton, and is expecting their first child and Perry and Sharon’s sixth grandchild by the first part of July.  Perry loves to take the kids fishing, fly kites, or just tell them stories.
